The Horned Serpent (The Monument Mythos)

Character Blog

The Monument Mythos is an analog horror series that is…unique. In a good way. A very, very captivating story and introduced me to so many concepts and weird creatures that I grew to enjoy VERY MUCH. It's honestly such a goated series, and this is why I want to give the thing behind everything its own character blog! I also have received some assistance from u/Standard-Welder-5510 for this blog! They are a big Monument Mythos fan and helped with explaining a lot of things within the story and scaling. Without further ado, let’s get into this.

Background

Long ago, in history, war raged between the Colonists and the British. It was a tough time fighting for their freedom. But someone eventually stepped up to help. That would be General George Washington. He would help lead the Continental Army through many battles. While he would lose some, he would also win some. He was truly a force to be reckoned with. Finally, in 1781, the final battle would ensue, where the Colonists would achieve victory. Afterwards, that's when the United States would form. But soon…something would…change…within history. When George Washington decided one day to chop down a strange-looking tree, for God knows why, he would unknowingly become the vessel for the most dangerous thing within reality. On that day, he would be sent to an infinite metastructure of continuous upside-down and rightside-up trees, where he would be stretched and disfigured beyond repair. On that day, George Washington died…and the Horned Serpent was born.

Trapped underneath the Earth, the Serpent would lie dormant. It lay there for centuries, needing to be released. Throughout history, the Serpent would slowly manipulate important people within the Earth to do its bidding. To bring it one step closer to its freedom. It created extensions of its limbs to cause interdimensional chaos. Its limbs were utilized for a death ray that created a being made up of atomized people, it caused tension through the Suez Canal Crab incident, and more. But finally, one day, two beings of infinite power would clash, causing the Earth’s crust to crack and unleash the Serpent. The time for destruction was at hand. Reality was ripped apart, and its aspects were scattered into many worlds known as Cornerworlds. This was known as the Great Division. Despite everything that happened afterwards, the Serpent remained free. In other realities, gods, monsters, and other entities existed, tracing back to the Serpent. Throughout it all, one thing was for certain. The Horned Serpent is real, and every single world is under its strings.

Experience and Intelligence

During the Serpent’s time as George Washington, he was a VERY powerful and talented military leader, tactician, and politician. He also helped win many battles in the Revolutionary War. When becoming the Serpent, it lay under the Earth for centuries, in which it manipulated history over time, causing important figures to do its bidding by manipulating their dreams. It was even described as the “True Ruler of America.”

Special Trees

Don’t judge a book by its cover! Even though these appear to be regular trees, Special Trees are a unique phenomenon within the Monument Mythos multiverse. These trees contain otherworldly power that some unlucky people have encountered. The main thing about them is their ties to an infinite world known as Wonderland (See Before the Summary). When discovering these trees’ power, humans had to contain them in order to prevent them from causing any harm. But how does this tie in with the Horned Serpent? Well, these trees are revealed to be mere LIMBS of the Horned Serpent. With these trees, the Serpent can spawn them in places and utilize their power to do many things. Speaking of power…

Powers and Abilities

Acausality (Types 1 and 4)

Wonderland is stated to not abide by the concepts of time and space, with time even confirmed to be non-existent within Wonderland. Additionally, it is implied that due to this nature, George Washington unintentionally caused a sort of time paradox that caused the Horned Serpent’s own existence. Let me repeat that, THE HORNED SERPENT’S EXTENSION CREATED ITSELF BTW.

Causality Manipulation

As shown above, the Serpent can affect causality, as it caused Cthonaut A to become the only Cthonaut A within the multiverse after the Great Division. It essentially merged all versions of him into one, described as “multiple streams converging into one larger river.”

Electricity Manipulation

Just like Special Trees, the Serpent can create its own electricity, as seen during the Great Division

Atomic Manipulation

Dimensional Travel

As shown with Special Trees, they can send others to different universes or just pop up in other universes. Along with this, the Serpent created the Cornerfolk during the Great Division, in which these guys are all about dimensional travel, in which they can traverse universes and even spatial dimensions.

Spatial Manipulation

As shown above, Wonderland causes distortions in size and space. On top of that, this is what caused George Washington to become the Serpent in the first place.

Time Travel

Seen with Special Trees, they can go to different points in time within universes, and have shown to be able to send people back in time. Like what “Paper York” did to Thomas Jefferson and York. Fusing them and sending them back to the Stone Age. (Also its implied the Special Tree created the Serpent, which means it created itself, implying time travel and some time paradox bullshit)

Time Manipulation

Since Nixon is essentially from the Horned Serpent, the Serpent should possess this ability, which Nixon casually employs to manipulate his voice to move forward and backward in time. This should also imply he has some sort of control over time. Especially with the Special Trees’ weird timey-wimey properties.

Reality Warping

In the QnA shown above, when the Horned Serpent caused the Great Division, it was stated to rip reality apart. Pretty simple.

Telepathy, Empathic, and Mind Manipulation

Soul Manipulation

With the Trees’ abilities, they are able to manipulate souls, in which Virginia’s soul was put within another body in WASHINGTONWONDERLAND.

Possession

The Horned Serpent can seemingly possess other creatures’ bodies. Such as when it overtook the Crescent King’s control over the Last Son of Alcatraz, causing it to become the Horned Serpent. It's also NOT the Crescent King transforming, since it was never shown to be able to have this transformation. Also, the fact that in the same scene, it happened kinda abruptly adds to this. If the Crescent King COULD really do this, it probably would’ve done it sooner, so…yeah.

Paralysis Inducement

With the Trees’ abilities, they are able to paralyze people within the Washington Monument

Duplication

Within Wonderland, when someone is moved from one universe to another, a copy is left in their place (think of the Loop from Fortnite). Along with this, their memories cannot be destroyed or replaced. An example of this is when Everett encountered a memory of Virginia Arnoldson, stating that “Wonderland remembered her and that memory lived on,” and that she was “a figment of Wonderland.

Incorporeality

As shown above, the Horned Serpent is stated to be abstract in nature and to exist outside the material world. We can also only see one aspect of the Serpent and Wonderland at a time.

BFR

The Special Trees’ main ability…or the Serpent’s, technically. As explained before, it takes people to an infinite metastructure known as Wonderland. Those who try to escape are stretched and burnt beyond repair. Wonderland also sends those people into different universes (Just pretty much the entire second half of ROCKEFELLERTREETRAGEDY). Along with this, in 1980, the Horned Serpent attacked Maize, in which people and things phased in and out of reality.

Dream Manipulation

In LIBERTYLURKERS, it is stated by Ferdinand de Lesseps that a voice in his dreams commanded him to build the Suez Canal. He also says the thing that commanded him was “the man beneath America,” which is most likely the Horned Serpent.

Size Manipulation

It is stated that the Serpent can change its size at will. Additionally, Special Trees, which are its limbs, can vary in size. Nixon, who was its creation, can alter his size to grow bigger than planets. And finally, Cthonaut A, with his Wonderland powers, can grow bigger than the Earth.

Omniscience

As shown in the screenshot above, during the Great Division, Nixon and Cthonaut A were given omniscience, in which their powers come directly from Special Trees and Wonderland. This is also backed up by Eve’s statement on Nixon gaining “all-knowing wisdom” from those trees, which implies the Serpent has this as well.

Omnipresence

Wonderland is stated to be an aspect of the Serpent itself; given that information, the Serpent should be able to have omnipresence within this world.

Clairvoyance

With the confirmation that Nixon’s wisdom comes from the Special Trees, the Serpent should have Nixon’s future sight, in which Nixon was able to tell events way before they were going to happen, and speak of them as if they had already happened.

Fictionalization

Nixon’s most powerful attack, and an attack that the Serpent can handily replicate. What it essentially does is reduce a universe and all entities within it into mere fiction. But this also causes the user to be fictionalized.

Creation + Fusionism + Transmutation

As seen with the Great Division, the Horned Serpent essentially created the Cornerfolk. On top of that, Nixon created the Son, Knight, and Queen, in which he is from the Serpent. Another example is the Suez Canal Crab, which was created from a Wonderland Climber (I COULD NOT find the scan for the life of me, but it DOES exist). Along with this, Special Trees are able to fuse people together, like when one created the Ship Jester by fusing York and Thomas Jefferson, as shown above.

American Wonderland Syndrome

American Wonderland Syndrome, or AWS, is a weird phenomenon that happens when a victim has prolonged exposure to Wonderland. Due to the weird space-time bullshit that happens within the metastructure, it causes physical attributes to become distorted and gain pretty weird properties with it. Most cases make people turn into a sort of Special Tree that can walk. Like Everett Arnoldson and Dorian Everett Vask.

Fictional Transcendence (See Before the Summary)

Since Nixon is Alcatraz after it adapted to the Horned Serpent Metastructure, and then it created the Crescent King, it should be able to handily replicate what the King did. But basically, when Nixon fictionalized the Nixonverse, the King was not fully fictionalized. After Nixon fictionalized the verse, the credits played in Absolute Nixonverse. But then, after the credits, it played the story of the Crescent King, implying that it still came back.

Scaling

The Perfect Union

(I'm gonna be so fr, I gave up on drawing Freedom here.)
Due to the fact that the Horned Serpent is the top tier of the Monument Mythos verse, it should be able to easily upscale all 3 of these characters, including their fusion.

The Holy Trinity + God

Due to Nixon being the Serpent’s creation, technically, and the rest of his extensions being below Nixon, the Serpent should easily scale.

The House in the Ocean Entities

Now, this is a biiiiiiiiiit weird. So the House in the Ocean was originally its own experimental film, not connected to the Monument Mythos, which was later deleted in 2022. But later within Nixonverse, it is revealed that the House in the Ocean video was actually a “cover-up” and an “urban legend” to conceal the truth that the Last Son of Alcatraz escaped his mind control, in which he turned into his childhood home in the sea and eventually became the Crescent King. It was also revealed that the universe in which the House in the Ocean takes place is actually a universe within the Monument Mythos multiverse. Due to the Serpent obviously upscaling the King since it literally NEEDS to become the Serpent to destroy reality, it should scale to him, along with lesser beings within this universe.

Miscellaneous Entities

The Serpent is the highest overarching being within the Monument Mythos multiverse. While there are many powerful beings, none of them stack up to the true power that is the Serpent. Even a “God” like Alcatraz needs to adapt to the Serpent’s metastructure to gain more power. So it should be able to scale to every other being that is below it…which is everything.

Weaknesses

The Serpent…doesn’t really have any notable weaknesses. None of its abilities really have any drawbacks, besides Fictionalization, but it could then just escape it, so it shouldn’t be an issue.

Before the Summary

Why is every universe “Low Multiversal?”

So you may be wondering why every single blatant universal feat is low multiversal? Well, let me explain. Within the Deanverse, we are introduced to the Giza Pyramids. Why are these important? Well, because later within STARRYSPHINX, it is revealed that these said Pyramids are actually infinite in size. It's not even hyperbolic either. In a QnA for the Monument Mythos, Eve (or Alex at the time) stated that the pyramids extend down infinitely, which just gives confirmation that what Leonard said was true. Now you may be asking, “I see that, but how does that apply to every universe?” Well, I’m glad you asked! So, within the Cliftverse, which is an alternate reality of the Deanverse, when Elon Musk is on Mars, he discovers these same infinite pyramids on the planet. Along with this, the pyramids were made explicitly clear to be counters to Special Trees, which exist in EVERY SINGLE UNIVERSE. They were made to contain them. It would make sense they exist in every universe, cause then they wouldn’t really be doing their job. And we seen that these pyramids can exist in other universes. So with all this, every single universal feat within the Monument Mythos verse is considered 5 times universal, or Low Multiversal, since there are 4 infinitely sized structures within each universe.

Monument Mythos Cosmology

Now time for cosmology! What fun! Alrighty, first off, let's talk about the size of each universe within the verse. At first glance, it may seem that each universe is finite, as it seems to abide by our interpretation of the universe. However, it is not. As stated by Everett in ARNOLDSONALONE, when he was being transported from Wonderland to the Cliftverse, he describes “the dark soil between realities,” which is obviously the space between universes, that he “experienced this infinitely.” Add to the fact that the interdimensional pyramids are stated to extend infinitely, this gives substantial proof that every single universe is infinite in size, which gives characters who cross these universes infinite speed. But how many universes are there? Well, let's get on with that, shall we? We start with the main universe, the Deanverse. We then have the unnamed universe that the other Virginia comes from, the Nixonverse, the House in the Ocean universe, the Cliftverse/Montyverse (Where Season 3 takes place), the Yorkverse (Where Alternate American Folklore takes place), the Pattinsonverse (Where Modern Day takes place), possibly the Trinity Desk universe exists as its own universe, and finally, Nixonworld (as revealed in James Dean: The Series). In total, we have 9 universes that we have seen. Buuuuuuuuuuuut we aren’t done here yet. With this, it is also speculated that there are more universes that we haven’t seen, and with this statement from Dwight Comics, if someone were to take control of Wonderland, they could change everything within the multiverse. Since Wonderland is infinite, this hints at an infinite multiverse. Speaking of Wonderland…

TLDR: Universes within the Monument Mythos multiverse are infinite in size, with each containing 4 infinitely sized structures, and they exist in an infinite multiverse.

What’s up with High Outerversal Horned Serpent?

Yeah. I know what you are all thinking. You saw that it had a Dwarf Star level attack for its first power feat, and then had a HIGH OUTERVERSAL feat for its second power feat. I get it. CRAZY POWER CREEP. But let me explain. But to explain, I need to present how the Horned Serpent Metastructure, or Wonderland, works. So firstly, Wonderland is a disjointed reality where time and space are essentially non-existent. And as described by Virginia, Wonderland consists of an endless amount of Special Trees, with it having seemingly infinite layers of these never-ending forests that extend above and below. But how does this make it High Outerversal? Well, we have to now look at something called R>F.

In simple terms, R>F is when essentially the character transcends the setting they are in to the point where they view that setting as fiction (This was more like an example tbh). This normally gets a character to just baseline Outerversal. Where am I getting at with this? Well, it is shown that universes within the Monument Mythos multiverse have that same sort of R>F transcendence. We see that some universes seem to see others as mere fiction. For example, the House in the Ocean universe is seen as an urban legend by the people within the Nixonverse, even though that reality is real. Other examples include some other universe viewing the Cliftverse as a comic book, the Yorkverse being stated to be “fictionalized history” to Maize in presumably the Deanverse, and Nixon just straight up says other gods and monsters exist, but they merely exist as urban legends and mythology to other universes above them. But what does all this have to do with anything? Well, let's get into that.

Now that we know universes in the multiverse have this weird R>F thing to them, we go back to Wonderland. As stated by Dwight Comics, each layer of Wonderland is tied to each universe within the greater multiverse. And that if one could take control of Wonderland, it could change EVERYTHING. And since Wonderland has an infinite amount of these layers, this is just an infinite stack of R>F that the Serpent just has within it. An infinite amount of R>F would then raise its level to High Outerversal. And there’s one more thing (SAY THAT AGAIN???). In WHAT THE SHIP JESTER KNEW, it is revealed that when Jefferson is sent to Wonderland, it seems like a singular Special Tree has its own version of Wonderland, as we see the tree have an infinite amount of itself going down. We also see this early on within the series, like in LIBERTYLURKERS, where we see George Washington sent down a similar structure. This means that Wonderland could be an infinite R>F stack, but it's for EVERY TREE, in which there is an INFINITE AMOUNT. Buuuuut this is a bit more debatable, as it could just be symbolic, but the infinite R>F stack in Wonderland already gets it to High Outerversal. Since the Cornerworlds are stated to be Wonderland taken apart, it should scale to the Serpent’s AP.

One more thing. This is an interpretative thing, but it is possible that Wonderland and the Serpent are aspects of a higher being, which could imply that the Serpent has a true form. However, again, it's how you interpret this statement from Eve. Just something worth mentioning.

What is the full extent of Fictional Transcendence in the Monument Mythos?

Alrighty, so this is going to be a tough one to figure out. So bear with me here (Nah bruh aint no way THIS is the one you hyping up as hard-). So, Absolute Nixonverse is basically Dwight Comics’ reupload of the Nixonverse as a full-length movie. However, it puts events in order, adds some new things, and recontextualizes A LOT of stuff. But the real kicker is at the end. When Nixon fictionalizes the Crescent King to remove its weird mind powers by making everyone think it's not real, you may have thought it was the end, right? Well, no. After the credits play, it shows another video, which was Eli’s retelling of his encounter with the Crescent King. This implies that the King DID return. If you want more proof, in Alternate American Folklore, the Crescent King returned within the Yorkverse through Aiyana and the Ship Jester. And due to the Crescent King being from Nixon, and Nixon being from the Serpent, it should be able to replicate it. Hell, it seems that Paper York (or a Special Tree) had a hand in bringing back the Crescent King in the Yorkverse, which further proves their ties to the Crescent King. (There also could be a possibility that Nixon escaped his fictionalization as well.)

Some Extra Words…or Something.

Whew…what a year it has been. Thank you all for reading this blog, and again, shoutout to my friend u/Standard-Welder-5510 for helping me out with scaling and with explaining a LOT of the lore. It would’ve been WAY MORE difficult if he weren’t there to help me. But uh, to address the big ol’ elephant in the room…

Where are the other blogs, Mega?

So please, show some mercy on me. So basically, if you don’t know, at the end of my Cell vs Omega blog, I announced Eddie Riggs vs Rumi was going to be the next blog. But then, in my Halloween blog for Bon vs Goji, I said that the Teacher vs the Wolf is next due to some issues with research in Eddie vs Rumi. So…where is that blog? Well… It's more of…procrastination and help with research…again. But please, please, please forgive me for not being able to release these blogs. I honestly think I shouldn’t even announce blogs unless I am SURE it will be done. With that being said…I have one last surprise for you all reading…enjoy, and happy New Year.

(Sorry if the video is kinda badly edited. I made this shit at like 11 AM 😭)
