Gabriel vs The Operator (Mandela Catalogue vs Marble Hornets) Blog

Gabriel, the angelic mastermind from the Mandela Catalogue.

The Operator, the faceless puppetmaster from Marble Hornets.

Imagine if your life has been toyed with from the beginning. Something was pulling the strings. Messing with your head. And there is nothing you can do. These two hyper-intelligent life-forms have invaded our world and are slowly driving the people around them insane, and messing with their words.

Gabriel

Imagine what you have always believed was a lie. Everything was planned out in the beginning. Speaking of that, in the beginning, when God created the world, spawning tons of flora, animals, stars, and more. But his greatest creation was us. Humanity. But something was off. An evil presence that HATES our existence, and wants to see nothing more than our annihilation. Well, this being…is the angel Gabriel…or Satan, imposing as an angel of light. Throughout the telling of the Bible, Gabriel has always been there, altering history little by little. But finally, one day, Gabriel succeeded. After thousands of years, he has prevented the birth of Jesus Christ. Everything is in motion. GOD IS OVERTHRONE.

Many, many, manyyyyyyyy years later, it is the analog era, or the late 1900s. Everything is normal…or is it? Suddenly, strange beings started appearing out of nowhere, taking the lives of many people within the 4 counties of Wisconsin. These strange lifeforms were dubbed “Alternates.” Although the most curious thing about them is their way of killing. Psychological warfare. Over many years, Alternates have driven people insane and taken their forms. And the one behind them all? Gabriel. This is just the first step to his diabolical plan, and once he succeeds, there is no telling what will happen. So stay home, secure any entrances, and prepare for self-defense, as there is no telling what will happen next. PRAY.

The Operator

Picture this: you are sorting through your various VHS tapes your friend sent you, and you decide to watch some of them, but notice something is off. You don’t remember some of these recordings. You CAN’T remember these recordings. That’s weird. But you also notice something else. Something is following them. A weird, mysterious being, who doesn’t seem hostile…but something about it just feels…OFF. This is the Operator. This thing has been stalking a man named Tim Wright for many years, even since childhood!

Throughout the Marble Hornets franchise, it has been stalking the cast and crew, slowly driving them insane, and turning them against each other. While we don’t know this thing’s exact goal, it seemingly messes with its victims' heads and spreads its influence through interaction. Thus, we now know that its main goal is to spread its disease among its targets to stay alive. Even though the Operator has fully corrupted its victims and spread its influence, it wasn’t enough, as Tim finally killed one of the last people associated with it, therefore making sure it ceases to exist…but it wasn’t enough. It soon came back to terrorize a new group of people. So check your windows and grab your camcorder, cause this entity will be there. Watching. For all eternity.

Experience and Intelligence

Gabriel

Gabriel has existed since the beginning, and possibly even before the universe was born, with it giving him knowledge beyond mortal understanding (Which leads to M.A.D, which we will get into shortly). While he isn’t a physical fighter, typically letting his minions do all the dirty work for him, he’s an excellent manipulator, fooling humanity for a very long time.

The Operator

While we don’t know when the Operator came to be, it was first discovered in the early 2000s, when it started its first set of victims. While we don’t know this thing’s level of intelligence, we do know that it is a conniving being with knowledge on how to stalk without being spotted. It also seems to study its prey from afar, before soon confronting them to exploit their weaknesses.

Powers and Abilities

Gabriel

M.A.D (Metaphysical Awareness Disorder)

M.A.D is an illness traveled by sound, due to Gabriel or his Alternates (more on them later) giving people information that people don’t want to know. This would result in a 97% chance of the person affected by M.A.D to commit self-oof. It’s extremely effective if the person has a strong belief in religion, philosophies, etc. Or if they have an immense fear of something.

Shapeshifting

Like the Alternates, Gabriel can shapeshift his body into many forms, such as the snake from Adam and Eve. Or like how his creations can transform into different people.

Voice Mimicry

He can mimic other people’s voices to fool others, such as when he pretended to be O'Brian to trick Dave. Or how other Alternates can mimic people’s voices, like Cesar.

Flight/Teleportation

Gabriel can float/levitate in the air, and can also teleport (Ngtl looks VERY GOOFY)

Darkness Manipulation

Gabriel can darken the area around him, including the sky. It was also stated that when he met the shepherds, “night fell upon them in an instant.”

Light Manipulation

Gabriel can manipulate light, as he made the sky brighter, and has made cartoon depictions drained of color. To back this up, it was stated that when he met the shepherds, ...and all the color was drained from the world.”

Telepathy

Gabriel has the ability to talk to people through their minds, like with Thatcher (seen above).

Telekinesis

Gabriel can use telekinesis, as he gouged Dave's eyes out and possibly exploded his brain without making actual physical contact.

BFR

Gabriel can send people to a "sandy tomb" with infinite sand, such as he did with a shepherd in Volume 5, and it is implied that he did with Jesus.

Earth Manipulation

It seems that within the sandy tomb, Gabriel can manipulate the sand within it, causing them to move and speak.

Dream Manipulation

Due to him possessing the same abilities as his creations, Gabriel should be able to affect dreams like how an Alternate made a person have the same dream over and over again in the video description.

Technology Manipulation

Again, due to having the same powers as his creations, Alternates can mess with electronics, tapes, and even cause cartoons to start glitching.

Ressurection

Gabriel can revive the dead, such as when he brought back the shepherd’s lamb from the dead. (Although it is difficult to say if he can do this, since it could have been that he spawned an Alternate in the sheep’s place, since it started distorting rapidly later.)

Summoning/Creation/Hive Mind

Gabriel is implied to be the creator of the Alternates, with him creating an Alternate to go after Noah. In his vinyl figure, it’s revealed that he’s the hivemind leader, so he can create and control an army to do his bidding.

The Operator

Influential Existence

Whenever the Operator interacts with someone, it spreads its influence through them. By doing this, the Operator can spread its disease (which is the influence) and stay alive as a result. As a double-edged sword, killing everyone associated with the disease would be able to weaken it, although it would be very hard if the Operator were to spread its influence onto YOU.

Mind/Empathic/Madness Manipulation

The Operator’s main ability. Throughout the series, it has messed with the minds of its victims, doing things like increasing stress, violent tendencies, paranoia, etc. It can even use mind control to comply with its orders.

Memory Manipulation

Another one of its main abilities is to affect memories. Usually, erasing them. For example, it wiped SEVEN MONTHS from Jay’s memories.

Fear Manipulation

It seems the Operator can instill fear within victims, such as when Alex’s dog named Rocky, started getting scared when confronting the Operator, as shown above.

Telekinesis

It seemed to cause swings and seesaws on a playground to start moving on their own without touching them. It also has moved doors.

Technology Manipulation

The Operator is capable of affecting technology, such as causing distortions in audio and video recordings, preventing a voicemail from being sent, causing a camera to run out of battery (as seen above), etc.

Aura (Overwhelming)

Passively, the Operator can cause many things to happen to its victims. Things like amnesia, sleepiness, and minor diseases. Along with this, it can infect the person, causing violent coughing, headaches, seizures, or unconsciousness. If the target is around the Operator for too long, it can intensify headaches, seizures, amnesia, and other health issues.

Power Bestowal

It seems that some victims exposed to the Operator have shown technopathic abilities similar to the Operator itself.

Space-Time Manipulation

Can warp space like changing rooms of a house, making a structure disappear and reappear somewhere else, and warping Rosswood Park to cause the characters to appear in different places. And can warp time by sending victims forward in time, multiple times.

Perception Manipulation

It can change the perception of people, or things, like causing a camera not to spot door movement, or causing Jessica to see other people as shadows.

Invisibility

The Operator can seemingly make itself invisible to certain people, so that they can only see it through a camera lens.

Clairvoyance

The Operator always seems to know where its victims are. For example, it immediately knew where Alex’s new spot was.

Sleep/Dream Manipulation

Due to its aura, it can cause targets to faint or suffer from insomnia and narcolepsy. Along with this, it can manipulate dreams, such as when Jessica kept having dreams of being watched by the Operator.

Darkness Manipulation

The Operator can seemingly make the area around it dark, like when it darkened Alex’s room.

Teleportation/BFR

It can teleport itself and others across long distances, and can transport others to The Ark. Along with this, it can teleport targets forward in time.

Body Control/Size Manipulation

It can modify and grow its limbs and body (in this particular image, 40.35 ft. Jesus.), while also bending its limbs inhumanly.

Biological/Death Manipulation

The Operator can leave weird ⦻ marks on the skin (similar to the irl Ringworm) without any physical contact. It also seems it can cause instant death within victims marked with this symbol.

Necromancy

It seemingly can bring back people from the dead to do its bidding. Like when it reanimated Milo’s corpse after he committed die.

Illusion Creation

Intangibility

It was seemingly able to phase through Masky when he tried to punch it.

Armies

Gabriel

Alternates

Gabriel’s creations were meant to wipe out humanity, with them impersonating and killing people in 4 countries of Wisconsin. There are three types of Alternates, which are listed below.

Type 1: Doppelganger: Perfect copies of human beings that are nearly unidentifiable or impossible to differentiate.

Type 3:  Flawed Impersonators/Overdriven Assimilations: Doppelgangers, but extremely flawed.

(Examples: N, Faceless Girl, The Preacher, Cesar's Alternate)

Type 4: Tulpa: Alternates that are spawned through people’s imagination (typically children), manifested through TVs or mirrors.

Powers/Abilities

  • Madness Manipulation: Via M.A.D
  • Shapeshifting Depending on type, can turn into different humans
  • Incorporeality: Stated to exist on different spectrums
  • Flight: Some of them seem to be able to fly
  • Hive Mind: Are part of a hive mind, as established before
  • Voice Mimicry: Alternates can mimic people's voices, but to varying degrees
  • Body Control: Some Alternates have control over bodies, leading to things such as bigger heads/longer arms
  • Fear Manipulation: Alternates can create immense fear within people
  • Telepathy: Can affect the mind, like how N affected Jude Murray
  • Dream Manipulation: As mentioned before with Gabriel, an Alternate caused a woman to have the same dream over and over again
  • Technology Manipulation: Again, as mentioned before, Alternates can manipulate technology, with them distorting tapes and whatnot
  • Imagination Manipulation (Type 4): Tulpas manifest through imagination
  • Image Teleportation (Type 4): Tulpas can manifest/travel through TVs and mirrors

The Intruder

Part of Gabriel’s army, which led to both the disappearance of thousands of kids and the TV and Mirror Destruction Order.

Powers/Abilities

Mystifying Oracle Demon

Despite originally appearing in a different series, due to it now being a canon spin-off to Mandela Catelogue (helps that both series were made by the same person lol), we’re adding it. This demonic creature exists within a 1972 Parker Brothers Ouiji Board. It had owners, but it slowly drove them to madness and killed those around them. It has a new owner named Joel Haynes, who has been tormented by this demon for months.

Powers/Abilities

The Operator

Proxies Brainwashed Humans

Now, there are some complications with putting these guys within the Operator’s team. For starters, these brainwashed humans in particular don’t listen to the Operator often, with Masky (in the middle) actively going against it. But, because it can brainwash and control their bodies, it should be fine that they should be part of its team.

Masky: Previously Tim Wright, Masky is pretty much a normal guy who possesses a camera and a knife. Due to the Operator’s influence, he can manipulate technology.

Hoodie: Previously Brian Thomas, Hoodie (just like Masky), is a normal human who possesses a metal pipe and a handgun. Due to the Operator’s influence, he can manipulate technology.

Totheark: This character is kinda debatable if it's even part of the Operator’s team, but it is implied it is one of the cast members of Marble Hornets. And also runs the Totheark channel. They are the smartest of the 3, being able to hack, program, video edit, and code.

Feats

Gabriel

Overall

  • Made Adam eat the Forbidden Fruit
  • Eliminated Noah for disobeying him
  • Supposedly “overthrew God”
  • Trapped Jesus in a sandy tomb for the rest of eternity
  • Successfully took over 4 counties in Wisconsin
  • Deceived humanity

Power

  • Overthrew God (Debatable, see Before the Verdict)
  • Gouged out Dave’s eyes (Street)
  • That’s it. (Analog Horror go brr)

Speed

  • LITERALLY NOTHING LMAO

The Operator

Overall

  • Spread its influence onto the Marble Hornets cast
  • Caused said cast to go insane and murder each other
  • Successfully spread its influence onto another cast of characters
  • Brainwashed multiple humans to do its bidding

Power

Speed

Scaling

Gabriel

Alternates

Since Gabriel created the Alternates, he should scale to/upscale anything they did.

The Operator

Normal Humans

Due to the Operator clearly showing that it is superior to normal human beings, it should reasonably upscale them.

Brainwashed Humans

Since these humans are under the Operator’s control and are shown to be inferior to it, the Operator should upscale these two.

Weaknesses

Gabriel

Gabriel has been a mastermind since the beginning, pulling the strings and fooling humanity for a very long time. However, that doesn’t mean he’s perfect. While M.A.D would be very deadly, it’s not a guarantee that you’d be affected by it, as there’s a 3% chance that you won’t be affected by it. Alternatively, due to M.A.D giving information that people don’t want to know, if you DO want to know said information, there’s a chance that M.A.D won’t be effective on you. The same applies if you’re not the religious or philosophical type.

Gabriel is also very cocky and isn’t a combatant, typically sending his minions to do his dirty bidding or manipulating others to do certain tasks for him. Finally, even though he “overthrew God”, his process of eliminating humanity has been very slow, dwindling down populations within 4 countries over many years.

The Operator

Despite how mysterious the Operator is and despite its MANY powers, it has a few weaknesses. First, the Operator’s effects on people can be lessened with certain anti-seizure medication. Second, it could be made vulnerable by destroying every individual who had something to do with it or its victims. Third, even while invisible, you can still see it with a camera. Finally, while the Operator does have an army of proxies (or can make more depending on the situation), they’re not really obedient. Sometimes they can resist the Operator or not do what it says, and Tim, one of the Operator’s proxies, is literally working AGAINST the Operator.

Before the Verdict

Does Gabriel scale to God?

Now, this is the main question within the Mandela Catalogue series. Did Gabriel truly overthrow God, and therefore scale to him? Well, this isn’t really the case for a couple of reasons. For one, for having all that god-like power, you think he would have already taken over humanity and possibly the entire universe…right? Well no. In the Mandela Catalogue, he currently has 4 counties under his control within Wisconsin, which doesn’t really reflect having all this god-like power. On top of this, his extinguishing of humanity is rather slow. Just dwindling populations over many years, with some survivors slipping between the cracks. And remember, it has been established many times that Gabriel and his Alternates only have control of these 4 counties. Nothing else. And along with this, it could very well be another lie, as Gabriel is the deceiver. So maybe none of the actual events he did could have been true.

So, in short, no, he does not scale to God, as he doesn’t really show anything that backs this up.

Is the Operator related to Slenderman?

So this is one of the main confusions with the Operator. Isn’t it just Slenderman? I mean, it does look like him…right? Well, not exactly. While yes, the Operator is canon to the Slenderman mythos, it isn’t Slenderman. Just by looking at their appearance, they show some differences. Notice the absence of tendrils on the Operator. And in terms of how they behave, they act differently from each other, and do different things. The Operator doesn’t physically interact with its victims like Slenderman, usually just drawing power from their mental state. Along with this, Masky and Hoodie show some differences from Slenderman’s usual proxies (they also aren’t even called proxies), being able to keep their sanity and can resist the Operator sometimes, unlike some of Slenderman’s proxies. There are just too many differences to consider these two the same entity, so in conclusion, the Operator is not Slenderman, and we will not be using any of Slenderman’s feats and abilities. So no 7D Operator. RIP!

Verdict

Stats

Even though both of them mostly rely on their abilities instead of their physical capabilities, they both have some physical feats that we need to mention. On Gabriel’s side, in terms of power, he and his verse are consistently in the Street tier. And in terms of speed, Gabriel literally has nothing. On the Operator’s side, generally his feats place him in the Street tier levels of power… until he grows giant, which places him at Wall+. In terms of speed, Operator is normally at Average Human in terms of speed due to facing off and reacting to people, but he becomes Subsonic+ in terms of speed when he becomes giant. When comparing their stats, they’re pretty comparable in terms of power until Operator grows giant, and in terms of speed, we have a character with no speed feats against a character that can become Subsonic+ when giant.

The Operator takes Power and Speed

Powers/Abilities

Now this is really tricky. Both have many abilities that are similar in many ways. Things such as teleportation, BFR, telekinesis, necromancy, etc. But in terms of actual abilities, the Operator has the edge, due to his wider array of abilities. Along with this, the Operator has many abilities that are more helpful than Gabriel’s. While it is hard to determine which abilities could kill the other, it is worth noting that the Operator pretty much lasts longer than Gabriel, just due to its influential existence. Along with this, many of Gabriel’s abilities don’t work on it. M.A.D likely won’t work, due to the Operator not having any investment in religion or possessing any fear of anything. And because 3% of humans can’t be affected by M.A.D, it could likely resist it. Along with some of Gabriel’s other hax, like his BFR, in which it could just warp out. And due to the Operator being able to leave the Operator symbol on victims, which can cause instant death. Gabriel really has no way of countering this.

The Operator takes Powers/Abilities

Tertiary Factors

This section is actually quite easy to figure out. In terms of general intelligence, Gabriel pretty much takes this in spades. Yeah, the Operator has some knowledge on how to stalk and affect its victims, but it only really knows this knowledge by watching them from afar, which takes time. Gabriel already knows the deepest, darkest parts of the universe, hence why M.A.D is effective. Now for experience, it’s also rather clear-cut. Gabriel has been alive since the dawn of creation, and has been fooling humanity for MANY MANY years, while the Operator only really existed since the early 2000s. And finally, for skill, the Operator has been tormenting humans and has been around them for longer, and has attacked some itself, generally more willing to get its hands dirty. Gabriel, on the other hand, usually doesn’t fight and has his army do the dirty work for him.

Gabriel takes Intelligence and Experience, while the Operator takes Skill.

Armies

Now, in terms of armies…those poor humans. Why would you do that to them, like why???? But anyway, this is not really close. While Masky and Hoodie possess weapons that Alternates don’t have, like a knife and a gun, which can give them long-range combat. Outside of their technology-based ability (which wouldn’t mean much since the Alternates don’t use technology lmao), they’re human. Something we’ve SEEN Alternates tear apart like butter. Even if we equalized the stats of both armies, the Alternates also have the numbers advantage, so yeah…

Gabriel takes Armies.

Conclusion

Gabriel

Advantages:

  • More experienced
  • More intelligent
  • Has a way better army
  • Has a plushie!
  • Has aura (sometimes)
  • Alex Kister is a based writer

Equal:

  • Equal in power to the Operator…

  • Can counter some of the Operator’s abilities

  • Equal stamina

Disadvantages:

  • …until the Operator grows into a giant
  • Less skilled
  • Gets outsped into oblivion (what having no speed feats does)
  • Has no counters to the Operator’s most OP abilities
  • Alternates would unintentionally help Operator
  • A victim to 99% of his matchups

The Operator

Advantages:

Equal:

  • …but equal in power before growing giant

  • Can counter some of Gabriel’s abilities

  • Equal stamina

Disadvantages:

  • Less experienced

  • Less intelligent

  • Inferior army (Poor them)

  • Always Watching was MID

The debate at first glance seems pretty interesting. While Operator would beat Gabriel in a 1v1, the Alternates are a way better and bigger army than the Operator’s proxies. So the debate essentially boils down to “Operator vs. Alternates”, and in that scenario, the Operator would win. The Operator would be similar to them in power until it grows giant, and it would be faster than them, no matter what, and with it being way more willing to get its hands dirty, it could pretty easily tear apart the army with its bare hands. Even if we equalized the stats, Operator has so many abilities that the Alternates can’t resist, such as BFR, Death Manipulation and they wouldn’t be able to hit Operator when he becomes intangible, and also, sending an army against someone who can spread its influence onto others in order to exist is a VERY TERRIBLE IDEA, as then the Operator would become even harder to kill as a result. Eventually, Operator would tear apart the Alternate army, get to Gabriel, and tear him apart as well, and all Gabriel can really do is delay the inevitable. Gabriel’s intelligence and army would give the Operator some trouble, but the Operator’s physical stats and abilities mean that the angel’s wings would get clipped. Seems like this false angel was operated into his own demise. What M.A.Dness.

The winner is The Operator

Final Tally

Gabriel (0) - Sorry bro, you just Potential Devil 💀

The Operator (2) - MegaGojiraGX and Chemical_Music_3906

Credits again to Chemical_Music_3906 for helping me make this blog! He helped add most of Gabriel's stuff, helped with the verdict, advantages and disadvantages, and more! Thank you!

And again, per usual, here are two debate charts reflecting what we said in this blog!

Hi, Mega here.

Thanks for reading! Mandela Catalogue and Marble Hornets are honestly both are some of my favorite analog horrors of all time! Mandela Catalogue is my favorite, while Marble Hornets, funnily enough, is in 2nd place! Also, shoutout to the writers of Marble Hornets, who made probably the best written Slenderman in history. Also, I am hyped for what is coming next for the series, along with the Mandela Catalogue getting more volumes in the near future! But anyway, goodbye, and see you on my next blog!
